Craps Terms - Part Two

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Today, we continue our Craps Terms series with more terms. We stopped off at “for the boys” last session. Today, we pick it up with an animal-the Buffalo. Let’s get started.

Buffalo: Okay, it’s not an animal. When you make a buffalo wager, you’re betting on each of the Hardways and Any Seven. If you want to mix it up, you can make a Buffalo-Yo wager, which is all of the Hardways and a Yo (eleven) bet.

Buy: When you place a number, you can buy it. When you buy the number, you’re paying a 5% commission for true odds. You’ll rarely see the 5,6,8 or 9 bought. It’s almost always the 4 and 10. Why? Well, when you buy the 4 and 10 you get 2 for 1 odds rather than 9 for 5. Imagine you bought the 4 for $25. Each time the 4 hits, you would be paid $50. Your commission would be $1. The commission is off the bet not the win. Also, the commission is rounded down, as most Craps tables don’t have 25-cent cheques.

C and E: This is an extremely common wager on the come out roll. When you make a C and E wager, you’re betting on Any Craps and Eleven (Yo). It’s a one-roll wager. You can make this bet any time, but most people do it on the come out roll to protect their Pass Line bets.

Charting: If you go to the casinos in Downtown Las Vegas, you’re likely to see a charter. Charting is when you record the action of a table. Usually this is done on a notepad. Why chart a table? Many people who do it believe there are patterns in the dice-not true. Others do it on a person by person basis, because they believe people have certain patterns. If you play online, you can do this easily and without standing out like you would at a real table.

Change Only: IMPORTANT! If you do nothing else, remember this command. When you are at a real Craps table and you throw money down, it plays where it stays unless you say “Change Only.” Many unsuspecting people have thrown their money down expecting change only to see it gobbled up after it lost. Now, if you want the money to be a bet, just don’t say another word or say “Money Plays.” That’s the command for letting the money sit and play. The dealer shouldn’t touch the money.

Cheques: This is the official term for what many call chips. Let’s say you have a $100 cheque and you want a stack of $5 cheques, you would put down your cheque in the Come area and say “Cheque Change.” That’s the dealer’s cue that you don’t want it to play and that you want smaller cheques/chips.

That ends today’s Craps terms session. Next time we’ll pick it up with terms like cocked dice, cold table, coloring up, come out roll and many more.

Traditional And Mini Baccarat

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Baccarat is not a game that most people grow up with, but having recently been introduced to the game I must wonder why: it’s fun, fast, and exciting, here’s how it works.

In a traditional game there will be 15 seats each with a position on the table; each table is worked by three dealers, and the dealer will stand in between the 15 and 1 seat; the dealer is responsible for the running of the game even though in a traditional baccarat game he is not holding the shoe; as such he is usally referred to as the ‘caller’.

The shoe will go from player to player, and when it’s your turn to have the shoe, you must bet with the bank; if however you don’t wish to deal you can simply pass the shoe to the next player; no one will think anything of it.

When you deal the cards, you pass them to the caller who will place them correctly; having given each player their two cards he will request a further card if required or simply acknowledge the victor.

So that’s how the game works, it’s simple right? And the betting and objectives are just as straight forward to understand.

The betting occurs after the cards have been dealt and involves betting against the bank, or indeed with the bank; therefore there are three possible options for betting each of which will be represented by a place on the table in front of you in your position; they will be marked player, bank, tie. Which ever you choose, you simply place your chips on that position. Once the hand is over, the other two dealers take care of clearing the table and paying up bets.

The aim or objective of the game is the only thing still to tell you about; the idea is to get to 9. There is a twist however in that once the value of your cards gets to 10 it returns to zero, so a 6 and a 5 is in fact only worth 1 because only the amount above the 10 counts; if you don’t get to 10, for example 3 and 3, that’s fine and you have a hand of six. Face cards, in a twist to their usual prowess are worth 0 in baccarat; so a pair of kings leaves you with a hand that is quite literally worthless.

Mini baccarat as the lay mans version is usually referred has a similar ethos to traditional baccarat but with slight changes, such as the shoe not passing and there being only 6 seats at the table. Usually the minimums and maximums of a mini-baccarat table are lower and therefore somewhat more affordable than the traditional table.

I was very pleasantly surprised with how easily I took to baccarat, how fun it was and how exciting; I highly recommend giving it a whirl.

Betting at Sic Bo

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

So, you are interested in the amusing game of Sic Bo? It is a simple game that I and many others enjoy playing. This time, I would like to discuss the different possible bets at Sic Bo. This may be useful if you would like to play the game but you don’t know how to bet. After all, let’s face it, betting is an important feature of any casino game. How can you put your money on a game, when you don’t know what the different bets are?

Do remember that Sic Bo is a fun game of chance that depends upon the roll of three dice. Some people love reading up all about different strategies for a particular game. When a game is basically based on luck, I find it difficult to even think about strategies. For me, this is the case with Sic Bo. Strategies then become based on betting issues. However, especially when playing for money, I do believe that it important to know what is involved in the game and what one’s betting options are.

Bet to Your Heart’s Content

Below you will find the main bets that are available at this game.

First of all, there is a high bet in the game of Sic Bo. For this eventuality the total of the three dice will be a number between 11 and 17.

For a low bet, the total of the three dice will be between the numbers 4 and 10.

There is an odd bet and an even bet, which are rather self explanatory.

It should be noted that all the above bets do not include triples.

An additional possible bet consists of a specific triple for which the particular number is determined in advance. A bet may also be placed on any triple.
Further, there are also bets on specific doubles for which the number is predicted in advance.

One may also place bets on specific dice combinations. This bet involves predicting two out of the three dice.

These are the main bets available at the Sic Bo game. Some experts recommend keeping to the high and low bets - especially for beginners. High and low bets usually offer the odds of 1:1.

Do bear in mind that the various odds and the table layout vary at different casinos. It is recommended to read detailed information regarding the game and its odds in addition to the relevant terms and conditions, before playing.

As with other casino games, it is advisable to try out free games of Sic Bo in order to learn the game before placing your money on the table. This is an excellent way to adjust to the game and practice different bets before playing for real money.

Roulette Introduction

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

The allure of the Roulette wheel has captured the attention of many walking through the casino. In some areas of the world, it is viewed as an elegant game-thoughts of James Bond come to mind. Roulette has a few versions. The two most popular are the European and American versions. The main difference and its effect on the game will be discussed in this article. We will also go over the probabilities of winning. Anyone that wants to win at a casino game needs to know as much as possible.

American Roulette

The American Roulette wheel has 38 slots in it. First, there are the numbers one through thirty-six. Finally, there are the 0 and 00 slots. American Roulette has a 5.26% house advantage over the player.

European Roulette

The European Roulette wheel has 37 slots in it. Like the American wheel, there are the numbers one through thirty-six. The European wheel also has a single 0 slot. The lack of the 00 slot makes the European version better to play. The house advantage drops down to 2.70%. There have been many systems devised for Roulette. The origins of these systems were really devised for the European version of the game.

Betting Types

Following are some common types of betting in Roulette. If you are playing in a live game and have any trouble, just ask the dealer. He or she will be happy to assist you.

Column Bet: The column bet is on the outside of the Roulette layout. It pays 2-1.

Dozens: Players can bet on the first, second or third set of 12 numbers. It pays 2-1.

Low or High: This bet pays even money. Players can bet on the winning number being 1-18 or 19-36.

Odd or Even: Another even money bet. Players bet on the winning number being odd or even.

Red or Black: A very common even money bet. Will the winning number be red or black?

Split Bet: Placing your bet on the line between two numbers creates a split bet. You win if either number comes up. It pays 17-1.

Straight-Up Bet: Placing your bet on any single number. If your number comes up, you win 35-1.

As you may have noticed, if the winning number is 0 or 00, these bets lose. That’s why the house has a nice advantage. To win on a 0 or 00, you must bet it straight up or split. Honestly, the game of Roulette is not that complicated. In a live game, there tends to be a spin every minute or two. Most live games also record the last 10-40 numbers for you as well. Even if you are brand-new to the game, you can have it down pat in about 10-30 minutes. Online players can play at their own speed. Most online Roulette games offer betting help too.
