Any Craps player that’s been playing for years has most likely developed certain methods of play. Sometimes players fall into a routine, for better or worse. A new Craps player usually bets randomly during a game, again, for better or worse. Whether you’re a new craps player or an experienced one, here’s five quick Craps tips to help improve your game and your chances of winning.
Know the Game’s Math
Okay, you don’t need to be a math wiz, but you should know some of the math behind Craps. Even experienced pros get caught up in the action and throw math to the wind. At the very minimum, you should know some of the number probabilities. If you’re betting on the hard 10, do you know how many ways you can make a hard 10 (one) and the probability of it being thrown? And the probability of you losing the wager is also good to know.
Look at the Players
Before jumping in a game (for real-world players), look at the players and watch the game for a minute. Do they have lots of chips? Are they happy? Do they seem a little annoyed? Is the game quiet? You can learn a lot from a 2-3 minute survey of the table.
Bet the Center to Lose Your Money
Anything in the center area of the table, the prop bet area, is a sucker’s bet. These are the bets that make the house all its money in Craps. Betting them is fun now and then, but you need to remember that it’s basically a wishing well. Bet often and without knowing it, you’ll lose a lot of money.
Bankroll or Die
You can’t just start gambling out of your wallet. It’s vital that you set up a bankroll, which is a specific amount that you’re willing to lose. It could be $5 or $5 million. All pros use bankrolls to guide their action.
It Goes Both Ways
Many newer Craps players, or superstitious old ones, forget that you can bet with or against the table. In other words, you can always win on any roll of the dice. Don’t be shy about betting against the table (Don’t Pass, Don’t Come, etc).
Sometimes betting against the table can make you a lot of money. Do players look sad? Are they without huge chip stacks? This might be an ideal time to bet against the table and see if you can’t clean up.
And don’t get stuck betting any one way. You can switch up your methods every point. Heck, you can bet with and against the table at the same time if you want. Craps has so many options.
